#### Question 1:

Magansheth bought 15 toys for Rs 20 each. He sold them all for Rs 345. Did he make a profit or a loss in this transaction?

#### ANSWER:

Cost price of 1 toy = Rs 20

∴ Cost price of 15 toys = Rs 20 × 15 = Rs 300

Now, the selling price of all 15 toys = Rs 345

Here, selling price is greater than cost price.

So, he makes a profit.

Profit = SP – CP = Rs 345 – Rs 300 = Rs 45

#### Question 2:

Hanif bought a case of 50 apples for Rs 260. He sold all the apples at Rs 5 per apple. How much was his profit or his loss?

#### ANSWER:

Cost price of 50 apples = Rs 260

Selling price of an apple = Rs 5

∴ Selling price of 50 apples = Rs 50 × 5 = Rs 250

Here, the cost price is greater than the selling price.

So, he has incurred a loss.

Loss = CP – SP = Rs 260 – Rs 250 = Rs 10

#### Question 3:

Harbhajan bought a case of 10 pencils for Rs 12.50. He sold the pencils at Rs 1.50 per pencil. What was his profit or loss?

#### ANSWER:

Cost price of 10 pencils = Rs 12.50

Selling price of 1 pencil = Rs 1.50

∴ Selling price of 10 pencils = Rs 1.50 × 10 = Rs15

Here, selling price is greater than cost price.

So, he makes a profit.

Profit = SP – CP = Rs 15 – Rs 12.50 = Rs 2.50

#### Question 4:

Azim bought 40 kg brinjals at the rate of Rs 6 per kilogram. He sold 25 kg of them at Rs 8 per kg and the rest at Rs 6 per kg. What was his profit or loss?

#### ANSWER:

Cost price of 1 kg brinjal = Rs 6

∴ Cost price of 40 kg brinjals = Rs 6 × 40 = Rs 240

For first 25 kg brinjals,

Selling price of 1 kg = Rs 8

∴ Selling price of 25 kg brinjals = Rs 8 × 25 = Rs 200

For rest 40 – 25 = 15 kg brinjals,

Selling price of 1 kg = Rs 6

∴ Selling price of 15 kg brinjals = Rs 6 × 15 = Rs 90

Net selling price = Rs 200 + Rs 90 = Rs 290

Here, the selling price is greater than cost price.

So, he makes a profit.

Profit = SP – CP = Rs 290 – Rs. 240 = Rs 50

#### Question 5:

If 28 kg of tea at Rs 72 per kg and 56 kg tea at Rs 90 per kg were mixed together and sold at Rs 85 per kg, how much profit would be made?

#### ANSWER:

For 28 kg tea, the cost price of 1 kg tea = Rs 72

∴ Cost price of 28 kg tea = Rs 72 × 28 = Rs 2016

For 56 kg tea, the cost price of 1 kg tea = Rs 90

∴ Cost price of 56 kg tea = Rs 90 × 56 = Rs 5040

Now, 28 kg and 56 kg tea are mixed.

So, net tea = 28 kg + 56 kg = 84 kg

Net cost price = Rs 2016 + Rs 5040 = Rs 7056

Selling price of 1 kg tea = Rs 85

∴ Selling price of 84 kg (28 kg + 56 kg ) = Rs 85 × 84 = Rs 7140

Here, the selling price is greater than cost price.

So, he made a profit.

Profit = Selling price – Cost price = Rs 7140 – Rs 7056 = Rs 84

#### Question 6:

If Kaustubh buys 96 kg sugar at Rs 17 per kg and sells it at Rs 18.50 per kg, how much profit will he make?

#### ANSWER:

Cost price of 1 kg sugar = Rs 17

∴ Cost price of 96 kg sugar = Rs 17 × 96 = Rs 1632

Selling price of 1 kg sugar = Rs 18.50

∴ Selling price of 96 kg sugar = Rs 18.50 × 96 = Rs 1776

Here, the selling price is greater than cost price.

So, he makes a profit.

Profit = Selling price – Cost price = Rs 1776 – Rs 1632 = Rs 144

#### Question 1:

If a shopkeeper suffered a loss of Rs 60 on selling 15 shirts for Rs 2340, find the cost price of each shirt.

#### ANSWER:

Selling price of 15 shirts = Rs 2340

The loss suffered by the shopkeeper on selling 15 shirts = Rs 60

We know that

Loss = Cost price – Selling price

⇒ Cost price = Loss + Selling price

= Rs 60 + Rs 2340

= Rs 2400

So, cost price of 15 shirts = Rs 2400

Cost price of 1 shirt=Rs240015=Rs 160=Rs240015=Rs 160

Hence, cost price of each shirt = Rs 160

#### Question 2:

If a shopkeeper sells 40 toys at Rs 5 each, he will make a profit of Rs 80. Find the cost price of each toy.

#### ANSWER:

Selling price of 1 toy = Rs 5

∴ Selling price of 40 toys = Rs 5 × 40 = Rs 200

The profit earned by the shopkeeper on selling 40 toys = Rs 80

We know that

Profit = Selling price – Cost price

⇒ Cost price = Selling price – Profit

= Rs 200 – Rs 80

= Rs 120

So, cost price of 40 toys = Rs 120

Cost price of 1 toy =Rs12040=Rs 3=Rs12040=Rs 3

Hence, cost price of each toy = Rs 3

#### Question 3:

After buying 4 hectares of land, Shankarrao sold the land for Rs 16 lakh and made a profit of Rs 50,000. At what rate per hectare had he bought the land?

#### ANSWER:

Shankarrao sold 4 hectares of land for Rs 16,00,000

∴ Selling price of 4 hectares of land = Rs 16,00,000

Shankarrao earned a profit of Rs 50,000

We know that

Profit = Selling price – Cost price

⇒ Cost price = Selling price – Profit

= Rs 16,00,000 – Rs 50,000

= Rs 15,50,000

So, cost price of 4 hectares of land = Rs 15,50,000

Cost price of 1 hectare of land=Rs15500004=Rs 3,87,500=Rs15500004=Rs 3,87,500

Hence, he bought the land at Rs 3,87,500 per hectare.

#### Question 4:

A shopkeeper suffers a loss of Rs 190 when he sells 16 clocks for a total of Rs 1570. What was the cost price of each clock?

#### ANSWER:

Selling price of 16 clocks = Rs 1570

The shopkeeper suffered a loss on selling 16 clocks of Rs 190.

We know that

Loss = Cost price – Selling price

⇒ Cost price = Loss + Selling price

= Rs 190 + Rs 1570

= Rs 1760

So, cost price of 16 clocks = Rs 1760

Cost price of 1 clock=176016=Rs110=176016=Rs 110

Hence, cost price of each clock = Rs 110
